NEW! Cooking for Wellness: 2-Hour Basics

Soba Noodle Salad

Cooking for Wellness – 2-Hour Basics are individual 2-hour hands-on cooking classes based on the weekly themes from The Basics curriculum. Developed and taught by culinary educators, our classes teach foundational cooking techniques for a healthier lifestyle. Here's what you will learn in each session:

  • Sauces and Condiments - Learn to prepare simple sauces and condiments to enhance everyday dishes and give you control of ingredients.
  • Soups and Stocks - Learn how to make meat and vegetables stocks and soups for simple, nutritious meals in minutes
  • Whole Grains 101 - Learn how to identify, prepare and increase the variety of whole grains in your diet
  • Plant- and Animal-based Protein - Learn about human protein needs and how to prepare healthful and delicious plant- and animal-based protein dishes

During every session participants will learn or re-learn knife skills, basic nutrition and food safety, and how to create a whole foods pantry as they prepare recipes with fresh, whole food ingredients. All sessions end with a community meal comprised of the foods prepared in class.

This new 2-hour individual session format is intended to provide flexibility for those who cannot commit to our full 4-week sessions. Feel free to mix and matched based on your interests and/or skills.
NOTE: We need a minimum of 18 participants. If there are less than 18 registrations one week before the start of a session, then that session will be cancelled and your fees will be refunded ($45/class - Eventbrite fees are nonrefundable.)

This course is open to anyone (no University affiliation necessary). UMN employees are eligible for Wellbeing Program points when they complete the one online home cooking assignment. Please refer to the UMN Wellbeing Program site for more information about Wellbeing points.
