NEW! Cooking for Wellness: 2-Hour Basics
Cooking for Wellness – 2-Hour Basics are individual 2+ hour (~2.25) hands-on cooking classes based on the weekly themes from The Basics curriculum. Developed and taught by culinary educators, our classes teach foundational cooking techniques for a healthier lifestyle. Here's what you will learn in each session:
- Sauces and Condiments - Learn to prepare simple sauces and condiments to enhance everyday dishes and give you control of ingredients.
- Soups and Stocks - Learn how to make meat and vegetables stocks and soups for simple, nutritious meals in minutes
- Whole Grains 101 - Learn how to identify, prepare and increase the variety of whole grains in your diet
- Proteins - Learn about human protein needs and how to prepare healthful and delicious plant-forward protein dishes (plus a few egg dishes)
During every session participants will learn or re-learn knife skills, basic nutrition and food safety, and how to create a whole foods pantry as they prepare recipes with fresh, whole food ingredients. Our expert culinary educators can accommodate ANY dietary preference (vegetarian, vegan, FODMAPS, gluten-sensitive, etc.) All sessions end with a community meal comprised of the foods prepared in class.
This new 2-hour individual session format is intended to provide flexibility for those who cannot commit to our full 4-week sessions. Feel free to mix and matched based on your interests and/or skills.
NOTE: Sign up early! We need a minimum of 18 participants. If there are less than 18 registrations one week before the start of a session, that session will be cancelled and your fees will be refunded ($45/class - Plus Eventbrite fees)
This course is open to anyone (no University affiliation necessary). UMN employees are eligible for 50 Wellbeing Program points when you complete the class. Please refer to the UMN Wellbeing Program site for more information about Wellbeing points.
